MEET THE DESIGNER, BREEAHN

MEET THE DESIGNER, BREEAHN

One of the loveliest parts of Instagram has been my path crossing with this incredible woman, Breeahn! She is a designer, mother, photographer and stylist (and sailor!) - you'll spot Breeahn's imagery dotted throughout our website and instagram feeds.

Her dreamy, natural aesthetic always captures our collections in the most beautiful light.

She also is the designer and creator of the Cove Watch available online and in store. We've worked together now for around 6 years and I'm so glad we got to have a little chat recently to share with you!

Welcome! Please briefly introduce yourself to our May family.

Hi, I'm Breeahn. I'm married with three beautiful boys 6, 4, and 2. We live in Melbourne by the water and race yachts competitively. I love all things photography, interiors and design.

How did you get into yacht racing?!

Born into it! My parents have always raced and I actually met my husband at a racing regatta.

What's your favourite time of year and why?

I LOVE summer and the warmth. To me, summer is a time for fun, swimming, sailing, happiness, and Christmas!

What's your most loved corner of your home and why?

I recently got a swing egg chair after discovering how amazing they are on our last holiday. It's so comfortable; I have positioned it by a sun-filled window, near a heater vent. It's the perfect spot to curl up with a book and a peppermint tea.

What do you do to slow down, rest or replenish yourself?

I attend Pilates - it's non-negatable that I go at least once a week. Movement is so crucial for my body and mind. Finding space can be challenging with three young children, but I love a long bath when my hubby is home on the weekend. We feel calmer when we are outside and close to the water, and we can do both when we walk to school, so we try and do this as many times as possible during the week.

Do you have any daily routines or rhythms that help you embrace a more intentional lifestyle?

I have a five-minute gratitude journal that I complement morning and night. I also try to wake up before the kids to have time to myself and get ready in peace. That way, I can be fully present when everybody is awake and help the mornings run smoother.

I adore the Cove Watch you designed and am so proud to stock it at May - what was the inspiration behind creating your own time piece?

I couldn't find a watch that suited my style - that was simple and clear to read and wasn't a smart watch. When breastfeeding for the first time, I found it much easier to remember feeds by using a clear faced watch, I'm a very visual person. I went on to design the watch in a neutral palette with a simple light-coloured face with black hands so that it could be seen in low light when feeding or putting a child to sleep.

I love the minimal lines on the watch - do they have any special meaning?

The lines on the face symbolize a cove, which to me is a tranquil place with calm seas and beautiful pristine sand. I also included three meaningful words on the side of the watch - connect, nurture and create for everyone they mean something different but my hope is that we can pause and reflect over the words when we need them most.

Have you got a great piece of advice, quote or word of inspiration to share?

There are so many, but what comes to mind now is that there is no point in talking until everyone is calm. If I do, I'm only adding to the chaos.

What are your favourite May Home Store product/s?

The Everyday Tote Bag is a long-time fav. It's practical and looks fabulous. I have used it as my handbag for years. I also love your beautiful scarves. They are so soft and comfortable. I wear them almost daily in winter, especially on the freezing Aus kick mornings. My favourite is the wool shawl.

What is something you're looking forward to?

We are heading to Bail with my extended family at the end of the year. It's going to be incredible.

Please share with us any social media so we know where to follow along with your journey!
